Five million robots in factories: China installs 59% of new machines, Europe declines 11%

The International Federation of Robotics' World Robotics 2026 report estimates 603,000 installations in 2025, including 354,000 in China, and attributes the rest to AI and machine vision.

The International Robotics Federation published its annual report: 603,000 industrial robots were installed worldwide in 2025, 11 per cent more than in 2024. For the first time, the world's fleet has reached five million units, up 9% and more than double the level seven years ago.

Geographical concentration is increasing. China alone deployed 354,000 robots, 59% of the world total and 20% more than the previous year — a national record surpassing nearly 60,000. Chinese suppliers are also gaining ground in their own markets: 195,000 units delivered, up 15 per cent, or 55 per cent of the country ' s facilities. The European Union is down 11%.

The federation expects 655,000 installations in 2026 (+9%) and 806,000 by 2029, based on manufacturing investments, labour shortages and advances in AI, industrial vision and sensors.
