The ANYmal quadruped receives his badge: ANYbotics makes him open the secure doors of a control unit

With dormakaba and LEGIC, the inspection robot now passes through the access-controlled doors like an identified employee, tested for several weeks in Ireland.

ANYbotics announced on September 24 a partnership with dormakaba and LEGIC Identsystems to provide its fleet of ANYmal robots with automated door access. The obstacle is more common than it seems: in energy, metallurgy, mining or chemistry, a simple closed door is enough to interrupt the tour of a mobile inspection robot and to remind a human operator on the spot.

The division of roles is classic. ANYbotics provides autonomous mobile robot, LEGIC secure digital ID technology, dormakaba access management and door automation systems. In concrete terms, ANYmal presents its identifier, dormakaba systems apply the existing access rules — the same as for staff — and open the door if the robot is allowed.

The device was tested for several weeks during a joint pilot at the Whitegate power plant, operated by GE Vernova near Cork, Ireland, where it allowed full inspections without manual intervention. The three partners are preparing a commercial deployment and assessing the extension of the principle to lifts, airlocks and turnstiles.
