Pixxel raises $100 million to industrialize its hyperspectral satellites

Temasek and Seraphim lead the Indian company's funding round, which brings its total funding to $192 million and is preparing a second generation of satellites.

Pixxel has closed a $100 million Series C round jointly led by Singaporean fund Temasek and space investor Seraphim, along with other institutional investors. The company's cumulative funding has reached $192 million.

The specificity of Pixxel lies in hyperspectral imaging: its satellites capture more than 135 bands of the spectrum, whereas a conventional multispectral system detects about fifteen. This finesse makes it possible to deduce the chemical composition and properties of the materials observed from orbit. Its Firefly constellation, six satellites weighing about fifty kilos put into sun-synchronous orbit in 2025 by SpaceX launches, reaches a resolution of about five meters.

The funds will be used to ramp up industrial production and develop a second generation of machines. The next constellation, Honeybee, is to add short-wave infrared and synthetic aperture radar. The data feeds a cloud platform, Aurora, where analysis models are deployed, with opportunities in forest management, water resources monitoring, agriculture and urban planning.
