SpaceX buys the publisher of the AI code assistant Cursor for $60 billion

SpaceX has confirmed the acquisition of Anysphere, the company behind the AI-assisted programming tool Cursor, in the largest startup buyout ever, funded entirely in shares.

SpaceX has confirmed the acquisition of Anysphere, publisher of the AI-assisted code tool Cursor, for $60 billion in shares. The deal follows an option taken in April, which gave SpaceX the choice between a partnership worth about $10 billion or a full acquisition later in the year. Closing is expected in the third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

Cursor has grown rapidly since its inception in 2022, reaching around $2.6 billion in annualized revenue. The deal is part of SpaceX's transformation into a major AI player, following its merger with Elon Musk's xAI company in February.
