FANUC has Gemini read welding drawings: no adjustment or manual learning of the robot

Photographed by the camera on the console, a plan is enough to generate the current and voltage parameters and the movement program of the arc welding robot.

On 11 September, FANUC announced an "AI Welding Agent" developed with Google, which is based on Gemini Enterprise. The operator photographs the workpiece plan with the camera integrated into the CRX collaborative robot's learning desk; the system derives the welding parameters – current, voltage – and generates the corresponding movement program.

The manufacturer insists on the absence of prerequisites: no additional hardware, no separate Google Cloud contract. The settings produced can be executed as is or adjusted before the operation, and the system is presented as independent of the welding power source used.

The selling point is the global shortage of skilled welders: commissioning a robotic welding cell today requires rare skills, both in welding and programming. A public demonstration is planned at the Tokyo International Welding Fair from September 16, with deliveries announced by the end of December.
