CyberHero: a world sports league for humanoids opens in Riyadh

Hero Esports is launching the world's first humanoid robot sports league in Riyadh, with ten EngineAI T800s in the ring and eight cities announced for the inaugural season.

Hero Esports, one of Asia's largest organizers of esports competitions, launched a league called CyberHero on September 9, 2026 in Riyadh, presented as the world's first sports competition reserved for humanoid robots. The opening event, the first humanoid fight organized in the Middle East, brought together ten T800 machines from the Shenzhen-based manufacturer EngineAI in an arena built for the occasion.

The T800 measures about 1.73 m and weighs 75 to 85 kg and has 29 motorized joints: it walks, runs, punches and kicks, pivots and gets up after a fall. The inaugural season is scheduled to run for eight stages in the Middle East, Europe, the Americas and Asia, two of which are in the Gulf region.

Three trades around each machine

The team format distinguishes between three roles: the manufacturers who design the mechanics, the developers who train the software part, and the drivers who decide live during the match. The organizers' argument is that the competition generates training data that is difficult to obtain in the laboratory, pushing the machines to their physical limits in front of an audience.
