Platforms such as Autodesk Forma and digital twins now incorporate environmental analyses and predictive simulations right from the earliest stages of architectural design.
Artificial intelligence is emerging as a key tool for integrating sustainability earlier and more effectively into the architectural design process. Platforms like Autodesk Forma analyze environmental factors—sun exposure, wind patterns, noise pollution—to propose optimized building layouts from the sketch stage.
Digital twins, virtual replicas continuously fed by on-board sensors, allow managers to predict the behavior of a building throughout its life cycle and to test scenarios before work. The movement is part of a regulatory framework that is getting tougher: since July 1, 2026, any project registered under LEED certification must meet version 5 of the standard, which makes the measurement of the building's embodied carbon mandatory for the first time.
