AI-GUIDE honoured for the commercialisation of its vascular access assistance technology

The portable device developed by MIT Lincoln Laboratory and Massachusetts General Hospital combines ultrasound and AI to assist with procedures outside hospital settings.

MIT announced on September 11 that AI-GUIDE has been awarded the 2026 Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer by the Federal Laboratory Consortium. Designed with Massachusetts General Hospital, the device helps the user position a guide and catheter in a vessel using handheld ultrasound and AI software.

The prototype is being transferred to AutonomUS Medical Technologies for commercialization. MIT says the project has been granted Breakthrough Device designation by the FDA, which facilitates regulatory exchanges but does not in itself constitute marketing authorization. The uses envisaged include prehospital care and field injuries.
