Ant Group has entered as a Gold member, in a merger announced at the PyTorch China conference in Shanghai.
The PyTorch Foundation announced on September 8, at the PyTorch China conference in Shanghai, the entry of Alibaba Cloud and Cambricon as Platinum members, and that of Ant Group as Gold member. Platinum status gives Alibaba Cloud and Cambricon a seat on the Foundation's board of directors and a seat on its technical advisory board.
Alibaba Cloud is a complete AI service provider whose Qwen open model family has been published since its inception in 2023; Cambricon designs AI chips and accelerators for large-scale model training and inference in China; Ant Group contributes to several open source ecosystems in the native cloud and AI frameworks. This rapprochement reflects the growing anchoring of the PyTorch ecosystem — so far dominated by Western actors — with China's major technological groups.
