SpaceX puts two Earth imaging satellites into orbit for BlackSky on the sidelines of a Starlink launch

Falcon 9's 90th flight this year: 57 Starlink satellites and two small commercial reconnaissance satellites took off together from the Kennedy Space Center.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 lifted off on Friday, September 5 at 1:12 a.m. (Eastern Time) from launch pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center, carrying 57 additional Starlink satellites as well as two small Earth observation satellites for BlackSky, carried in the secondary configuration. It was the 90th flight of a Falcon 9 in 2026.

The B1088 first stage landed about 8.5 minutes after takeoff on the "Of Course I Still Love You" barge in the Pacific Ocean — the 223rd landing on the ship and the 659th Falcon first-stage landing to date. The BlackSky satellites bolster a constellation of AI-powered image analysis capabilities: the company's Spectra platform automatically detects and classifies observed changes, cross-referencing imagery with other data sources such as AIS or ADS-B signals.
