The Department of Industry's five-year plan calls for $532 billion in cumulative investment to increase smart computing capacity to 9,800 exaflops.
On 8 September, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology published its five-year plan 2026-2030 for the telecoms and digital sector, with a numerical objective: to increase national smart computing capacity from 2,185 exaflops (at the end of June, up 177% year-on-year) to 9,800 exaflops by 2030, more than a quadruple. The text, dated 12 August, provides for a cumulative investment of 3,800 billion yuan (about 532 billion dollars) in information infrastructure over the period.
The plan also sets a storage capacity target of 1,700 exabytes by 2030, up from 540 exabytes today, and calls for the "orderly" deployment of intelligent computing clusters of 10,000 graphics cards, or even 100,000 or more. By the end of June, China already had 52 smart computing facilities, each with more than 10,000 accelerators.
