25 teachers from public middle and high schools followed five days of training before each designing an educational project around AI for their class.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Mary Skipper Public School Rector launched the first cohort of AI Educator Ambassadors, with 25 high school teachers representing almost as many different schools and subjects. The program is part of the city's AI literacy initiative, originally funded by a $1 million donation from Kayak's co-founder, Paul English, with the stated goal of making Boston the first major American school district where each student graduated with a true AI mastery.
The teachers attended a five-day summer institute designed by Day of AI, a training organization from MIT's RAISE initiative, in partnership with the district's digital teams. The week first focused on the actual functioning of AI systems and their limitations, before moving on to their concrete use in class. Each ambassador left with a specific educational project to be tested throughout the school year, with results to be shared throughout the district by June.
