Epic Unveils Agent Factory, a No-Code Platform for Building AI Agents in Hospitals

Presented at Epic's annual user conference, the platform is based on a base of 120 AI capabilities already deployed in its electronic patient record.

At its annual user conference (UGM), held in Verona, Wisconsin from August 18 to 20 in front of more than 20,000 attendees on site, the electronic patient record publisher Epic presented Agent Factory, a no-code platform allowing healthcare institutions to create their own AI agents directly in their existing workflows. The starting base already has a hundred integrated AI capabilities; its general availability is announced for 2027.

More than a thousand agent ideas were submitted by Epic customers during a hackathon organized this summer ahead of the conference. Some initial feedback has already been quantified: the ECU Health hospital network says it has saved its teams about 20 hours of work per week thanks to an agent responsible for automatically summarizing requests sent to its patient transfer center. Epic also took advantage of the event to announce Ergo, a new clinical interface natively designed for AI, expected in November.
