The laboratory founded by Mira Murati is reportedly seeking to raise $1 billion under the leadership of Accel, down from the $50 billion valuation initially targeted.
Thinking Machines, the laboratory created in early 2025 by the former technical director of OpenAI Mira Murati, would be under discussion to raise a billion dollars on a valuation of at least 40 billion, according to The Information. Accel would lead the tour. The amount remains considerable, but the valuation is falling from the 50 billion that the company would have sought last year.
The annualized turnover of the company would slightly exceed $100 million, placing the multiple valuation at an extreme level, even in view of current industry standards. Its $2 billion launch, led by Andreessen Horowitz with Nvidia, GV, Lightspeed and Conviction Partners, had already valued it $12 billion.
On the product side, the laboratory launched Inkling in July, an open-weight model monetized for use via its Tinker model adaptation platform. On the other hand, the company experienced several notable departures, including those of co-founders Lilian Weng and Luke Metz, who returned to OpenAI.
