Hartford HealthCare wants to bring its PatientGPT assistant to more than one million patients

The Connecticut hospital system is expanding one of the largest clinically supervised, clinically supervised deployments of patient-facing AI in North America.

Launched in the spring of 2026 with the company K Health, HHC PatientGPT is a conversational assistant connected to the patient's medical file: it translates laboratory results into common language, answers health questions, reports possible drug interactions and makes appointments. Hartford HealthCare now plans to invite more than one million Connecticut adult patients to use it by the end of 2026.

The scale is unusual for a tool directly exposed to patients: few North American hospital systems have crossed this threshold, most of which reserve the generic AI for administrative tasks or writing support for caregivers.

Deployment is progressive. In its limited beta phase, it is accompanied by supervision by accredited practitioners, a structured collection of returns and quality monitoring. K Health describes an auditable multi-agent architecture, where independent reviewers compare responses to preloaded clinical repositories with the goal of containing the model drift.
