Generalist reaches $3 billion in valuation with a model that learns a gesture in 3 seconds of video

The $200 million expansion led by 8VC brings the startup's Series B to $600 million and its valuation to $3 billion, two months after a round of $2 billion.

Founded in 2024 by two former Google DeepMind researchers, Pete Florence and Andy Zeng, accompanied by Andrew Barry from Boston Dynamics, Generalist has just completed a $200 million extension led by 8VC. Its Series B, opened in June at 400 million and with a value of 2 billion, now reaches 600 million and values the company at 3 billion. Radical Ventures had led the initial round; Among the older supporters are Nvidia, Union Square Ventures, Bezos Expeditions and Fei-Fei Li.

The technical argument holds in a promise of data efficiency: the Gen 1.5 foundation model must allow a robot to acquire a new task from video demonstrations of only three to twelve seconds, and to operate on different robot morphologies. The company is currently working with a handful of customers to adapt the model to specific uses, rather than targeting a generic product.

The lifting is part of a sequence where investors bet on a " ChatGPT moment" of robotics. Competitors have significantly higher valuations — 11 billion for Physical Intelligence, 14 billion for Skild AI — while Genesis AI is under discussion around 3 billion, the same level as Generalist.
