Five days after a memorandum of understanding signed in Santa Clara, LG received Nvidia's executives at its Yangjae data factory: 10,000 m², several hundred robots and 100,000 hours of data targeted by the end of 2026.
LG Electronics announced on August 18 that it was accelerating its robotics collaboration with Nvidia, welcoming executives from the American company to its Data Factory, still under construction at the Yangjae research campus in Seoul. The meeting came just four days after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the LG group and the chipmaker on August 13 at Nvidia's headquarters in Santa Clara — a pace that the two companies present as a sign of their desire to move quickly towards commercialization.
The site is designed as a training data factory. LG has deployed its CLOiD home robots on a large scale, with training spaces where they repeat tasks, and others dedicated to validating and refining product datasets. There is a reconstructed home where the robot learns to housekeep, and a simulated workshop modeled after the group's washing machine factory in Tennessee, where the machines move, stack and assemble parts. Robots are also used for LG CNS' logistics solutions and for training robotic hands at LG Innotek.
The data collected is then connected to Nvidia's robotics stack — Omniverse libraries, Cosmos open world models and Isaac development platform — to be augmented and synthesized. LG claims to be building a "flywheel" of data, where the accumulated quality feeds the continuous improvement of the robots. The four-storey, 10,000-square-meter Yangjae building is expected to house several hundred robots by the end of the year; the data collected on-site and synthetically generated via Cosmos should then total 100,000 hours, the equivalent of about twelve years.
