Claude finally shares his memory between the cat and Cowork

On August 25, Anthropic merged the memories of its two interfaces: what is explained in conversation no longer needs to be repeated when it comes to execution.

On August 25, 2026, Anthropic brought together Claude's memory systems for conversation and Cowork. So far, a user who was refining an idea in the chat had to reexplain everything by turning to Cowork to implement it: preferences, project details, constraints. Both surfaces now draw from the same stock of information.

The operation also changes in substance. The memory updates over the exchange rather than closing a conversation, and its content remains searchable, editable and eraseable by the user. By default, Claude refrains from retaining sensitive data — health, religious beliefs, political opinions — and never keeps any identification, social security number or judicial background; recording of sensitive subjects remains possible on explicit activation.

The functionality is enabled by default on Free, Pro and Max formulas, web, desktop and mobile. iOS and Android users must install the latest version of the app to fully enjoy it. The stated objective: that Claude cease to behave as two distinct products.
