Alibaba's video model is moving to general access the day after a $10.2 billion equity placement. It doubles the duration generated and accepts office documents as a source.
Alibaba made its Wan3.0 video generation model widely available on August 24, 2026, just hours after completing a $10.2 billion equity investment in Hong Kong. The model was not unknown: it had been circulating in public beta since 6 August on Model Studio, the group's cloud platform, as well as on Qwen Cloud.
The technical leap begins with duration. Wan3.0 produces up to 30 seconds of video in a single pass, twice its predecessor Wan2.7, which capped 15 seconds — a limit that required connecting sequences and managing continuity breaks. The feature highlighted by Alibaba, called Omni-Reference, extends the nature of the accepted entries: to text, image, audio and video are added office documents, spreadsheets, presentations, PDF and web pages, from which the model directly builds an animated sequence.
On the price side, Alibaba Cloud API is charged $0.05 per second in 480p, 0.10 in 720p and 0.20 in 1080p. The company already claims production uses in short series and cinema, advertising, tourism promotion and music clip.
