AWS adds per-query control over sources and time window to its managed search tool, and opens it up to the Ireland and Tokyo regions.
On August 21, 2026, AWS updated Amazon Bedrock AgentCore's Web Search tool, the managed service that allows an agent to search for information on the web without the data leaving the customer's AWS environment. The main new feature is a finer control exercised on a query-by-query basis: the agent can now restrict its search to a list of domains and a publication date window.
This setting responds to a concrete problem of production agents. An open search brings back content of uneven quality and sometimes outdated, which the model then integrates without distinction; limiting the authorized sources and the acceptable age reduces the error surface by the same amount, without having to filter the results after the fact.
The tool, exposed via the MCP protocol on a connector target in the Bedrock AgentCore Gateway, returns relevant snippets along with source URLs, titles, and release dates. Previously only available in Northern Virginia, it opens up to Europe (Ireland) and Asia Pacific (Tokyo), removing a data residency barrier for European customers.
