Among the 70,000 American companies that are Ramp's customers, Anthropic retained nearly 44% of the market share at the end of July compared to 40% for OpenAI, but the gap narrowed in the third quarter.
Expenditure data compiled by Ramp, an American specialist in business cards and fee management, provide an unusual overview of competition between model suppliers. In May 2026, Anthropic was ahead of OpenAI by two points among the platform's professional customers, with 41% versus 39%. By the end of July, the advance had grown: almost 44% for Anthropic, about 40% for OpenAI.
The trend of the third quarter partially reverses this trend, as OpenAI progressed faster than its rival over the period — with the reservation that there was still a month of data to be collected at the time of publication.
Perhaps the most striking indicator is the general dissemination of these tools: the proportion of Ramp's customers paying for AI service exceeded 50% in March 2026, reaching nearly 56% in July. These figures remain partial — they exclude the very large companies that go through other providers — and above all show high volatility, with organisations switching between suppliers at the rate of model exits.
