Nvidia discusses tie-up with Korean inference chip designer Rebellions

Jensen Huang received the boss of Rebellions in Santa Clara: the exchanges range from a simple technical partnership to an acquisition of a stake, or even a takeover of the start-up valued at 2.3 billion dollars.

Nvidia has initiated preliminary discussions with Rebellions, a South Korean seedling specializing in inference chips. According to reports this week, Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang met with Rebellions co-founder and leader Sunghyun Park at the US group headquarters in Santa Clara. The options mentioned cover a broad spectrum: technological cooperation, capital entry or pure and simple acquisition.

Founded in 2020, Rebellions has become known by designing processors dedicated to model execution — inference — rather than training, a segment where Nvidia dominates less clearly. The company raised approximately $850 million from investors including SK Hynix, Samsung Ventures and Arm, for a valuation of around $2.3 billion.

The timing is delicate: the financial director of Rebellions recently indicated that the company was actively preparing its introduction to the Seoul Stock Exchange. Any operation similar to a takeover by an American actor could also attract the attention of the Korean authorities, which consider semiconductors a strategic asset.
