2,056 robots and 666 teams: the second World Humanoid Robot Games opened in Beijing

Five days of competition at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval, 51 events and 1,301 matches, with delegations from sixteen countries.

The second edition of the World Humanoid Robot Games opened on August 22, 2026 in Beijing, at the National Speed Skating Oval. The event brings together 666 teams and 2,056 robots from sixteen countries for five days of competition, structured around 51 events and 1,301 encounters spread over nine sessions — a clear move upmarket compared to the inaugural edition in 2025.

The opening ceremony, themed "Intelligence Competing Toward the Future," brought together more than a thousand humanoid machines for a parade of delegations and the symbolic lighting of the flame. Thirty-six robots equipped with five-fingered hands played several instruments alongside human musicians, a demonstration intended to highlight advances in fine dexterity rather than just locomotion.

These games are being held in the same window as the World Robot Conference, which takes place in Beijing from August 19 to 23 with more than 300 exhibitors. Taken together, the two events serve as a showcase for a Chinese industry that now claims most of the world's deliveries of humanoid robots, even though its own manufacturers recognize that technical reliability remains the main obstacle to deployment.
