The initiative runs for three years and is primarily aimed at nurses working in rural, remote or underserved areas. The content is co-designed with the profession: fundamental notions on how AI systems work, then application in real clinical situations. One section is devoted to a topic rarely covered in technical training — how to talk about these tools with patients, their families, colleagues and the management of the institution.
The funding is part of a broader commitment announced in April by the two donors: $10 million divided equally for AI literacy among American rural health workers. The challenge is concrete: it is often the least staffed structures that are offered tools that are supposed to compensate for this shortfall.
