Google DeepMind’s GenCast model now predicts the weather and the risk of extreme events with unprecedented accuracy, and its code has been made publicly available.
Google DeepMind has developed GenCast, a high-resolution AI model (0.25°) that improves the forecasting of weather uncertainties, delivering faster and more accurate forecasts up to 15 days in advance — a significantly longer lead time than traditional physical systems.
Notably, GenCast is released as open source, including both the code and the model weights, enabling other meteorological agencies to build on it to develop their own forecasting systems.
