ChatGPT can now read, sort and send your iMessages

On August 20, OpenAI released a connector between ChatGPT and Apple's Messages application, capable of writing and sending replies on behalf of the user.

OpenAI presented on August 20, 2026 a plug-in that links ChatGPT to Apple's messaging. Once connected, the assistant can browse through the inbox, find information buried in an old exchange, offer answers, delete messages, and even write and then send them on behalf of the owner. The connector works as well with ChatGPT Work as with Codex, which opens it to professional use.

The processing is done on the user's machine: conversations remain locally stored by default and do not go back to OpenAI servers unless cloud synchronization is enabled. The company specifies not to build a complete email index. In return, activation requires that the client be given read access to the entire disk.

OpenAI recommends keeping an eye on what the assistant does and advises against permanent approval: to grant it is, in its own words, to give up the last opportunity to read a message before it leaves under your name.
