Construction robotics: 79% of companies use it in 2026, compared to 29% a year earlier

Precision is becoming the number one driver of adoption, ahead of reducing arduousness and safety, according to BuiltWorlds' annual barometer.

BuiltWorlds' annual equipment and robotics barometer records a shift rather than an increase: 79% of general and specialized contractors surveyed say they will use site robotics to some degree in 2026, compared to 29% last year. The share of those in the pilot stage on at least one project increases from 12% to 32%.

The ranking of motivations has also changed. Precision is at the top, cited by 75% of respondents, ahead of the reduction of manual effort (63%) and security issues (56%). Audrey Lynch, research director at BuiltWorlds, sees a shift in the discourse: companies are no longer just looking to compensate for the labor shortage, they expect measurable quality gains.

Three vendors stand out on distinct criteria: FieldAI earns top satisfaction ratings and wins the 2026 Company Choice Award, Boston Dynamics remains the most widely deployed, and Dusty Robotics most frequently piloted the most.
