AI is primarily used for upstream design — concept generation, image editing, rapid iteration — and 86% of users report measurable time savings.
Conducted by Chaos in collaboration with Architizer among architects and designers from around the world, this survey paints a less spectacular but more solid picture than the prevailing narrative. Nearly two-thirds of respondents say their agency is already experimenting with artificial intelligence, and a fifth say they have fully switched to workflows driven by these tools. About 74% plan to increase their use in the next twelve months.
The perceived value is greatest in the upstream phase: concept generation, image enhancement, and rapid creative iterations. Nearly 86% of current users report measurable time savings on design and visualization tasks, with some agencies reporting more than ten hours saved per week.
Finally, the survey notes a relative easing of concerns about ethics and originality, as practitioners accumulate concrete experience. For most agencies, the question is no longer whether or not to adopt these tools, but to integrate them without diluting the authorship of the project or the reliability of the deliverables.
