Alexa+ arrives in Australia and brings the number of countries covered to ten

Since August 6, Amazon's generative assistant has been offered in early access to Australian users, free of charge for Prime subscribers.

Amazon opened an early access program for Alexa+ in Australia on August 6, 2026, bringing the number of countries where the redesigned assistant is available to ten, alongside the United States, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain and France. A dozen additional markets are announced for 2027.

The technical promise lies in one formula: ambient intelligence that follows the user from one device to another — Echo speakers, Fire TV, mobile app, browser — without requiring the assistant to wake up with each sentence, and that keeps the conversation flowing. Alexa+ can also complete a task, such as booking a table or buying a gift, through partnerships with services such as OpenTable or Tripadvisor.

Amazon insists on a local adaptation work that goes beyond translation: for Australia, the assistant is supposed to capture the country's cultural references, from the State of Origin to Bluey. Free during the Early Access phase, the service will remain included for Prime subscribers and billed at 29.99 Australian dollars per month for others.
