A video forgotten in macOS reveals Apple's Camera AirPods

Researchers have found, in a candidate version of macOS Tahoe 26.7, a demonstration of headphones equipped with infrared cameras that power Visual Intelligence.

The clearest leak yet about Apple's camera-based AirPods doesn't come from an Asian supply chain but from Apple's code itself: a short demo video has been spotted in the macOS Tahoe 26.7 release candidate. It shows a user holding up a book in front of his headphones, which the camera recognizes the title of.

The device, codenamed internally by the code name B790, would have tiny infrared cameras in each of the two headphones. Their role is not to film but to feed Visual Intelligence with information about the environment, so that Siri can answer questions about what the user is wearing in front of them. The demonstration also shows a practical safeguard: if hair covers the headphones, an alert invites them to be released so that the analysis remains reliable.

A second model with cameras, referenced B798, is expected in 2027. The B790 could be presented in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro.
