Saturday, the owner of OpenAI exchanged with the executives of Samsung's electronics, finance and biotech branches, against a background of memory shortage for AI.
Sam Altman participated on Saturday 31 October in a leadership seminar organized by Samsung at his training centre in Yongin, south of Seoul. Approximately 50 leaders of the group's technological, financial and biotechnological subsidiaries, including Samsung Electronics, were attending, as part of a series of seminars aimed at accelerating the transition from conglomerate to AI.
According to Samsung, the discussions focused on the evolution of AI technologies, how they transform decision-making and business operations, and the expected skills of managers. Sam Altman stressed one point: the competitive advantage is not the adoption of AI per se, but the ability to use it to move faster, design better products and advance rivals.
The background
On the same day, according to industrial sources cited by the Korea Times, SK Group president Chey Tae-won also met Sam Altman in Seoul, in the presence of officials from SK hynix and SK Telecom. Analysts see likely discussions on HBM memory procurement and data centers, while Samsung has already committed to providing memory to OpenAI's Stargate project.
