AWS accelerates to +39% in the third quarter, and Amazon will sell its Trainium chips out of its cloud by the end of 2027

Amazon's cloud reached $45.98 billion in revenue, its strongest growth since the end of 2021. Andy Jassy targets more than 40% per year in 2027 and 2028.

Amazon Web Services reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $45.98 billion, up 39% year-on-year, above the $45.29 billion expected by analysts. This is the fastest pace since the fourth quarter of 2021, compared to about 37% in the previous quarter. Cloud operating income climbed 55% to $17.77 billion, and AWS now accounts for nearly 23% of the group's revenue, a record.

Trainium soon to be sold outside

Andy Jassy estimated that AWS could grow by more than 40% in 2027 and 2028 and become a $1,000 billion business within five to ten years. Following the model of Google, which offers its TPUs outside its own centers, Amazon will market its Trainium drive chips outside AWS from the end of 2027, at the request of customers, according to him. The quarter also saw the signing of agreements with Meta and OpenAI and the acquisition of data analytics startup DuckLabs.

During the conference with analysts, the Amazon boss also downplayed the threat of third-party buying agents, such as Meta's Muse, blocked on his site since September: according to him, they are "not very good yet". He claims more than 400 million users in one year for Alexa for shopping, the in-house agent, whose American customers would spend 50% more per order.
