GXO extends Agility Robotics' Digit humanoids to two new US warehouses, without yet gaining profitability

After more than 100,000 bins moved to Georgia, Digit will arrive in early 2027 at two GXO e-commerce sites. However, the Logistician estimates the return on investment to be two years.

Logistician GXO and Agility Robotics are expanding their collaboration: Digit humanoids will be deployed in early 2027 in two additional e-commerce warehouses, in Statesville, North Carolina and Lebanon, Tennessee, for highly repetitive handling tasks. The sites will start with Digit 4, then move on to Digit 5 as soon as it is released, a version with revised legs and designed to work more safely in contact with humans.

The partnership dates back to a pilot launched at the end of 2023 in Flowery Branch, Georgia, which in June 2024 became the first humanoid robot contract for service rental. Digit has moved more than 100,000 bins there, and Agility claims more than 65,000 hours of actual operation across all programs.

Enthusiasm remains measured: GXO, which has tested 45 humanoids from several manufacturers, acknowledges that it has not yet reached profitability on this technology and puts it at a few years away. Agility, for its part, is preparing its IPO by merging with SPAC Churchill Capital Corp. XI.
