Heart failure, glioblastoma, dementia: Meta entrusts its Muse models to five American universities for medical research

Caltech, Ohio State, LSU, Indiana University and UTHEalth Houston will use Meta's models, including open versions deployed on site, on patient files, scanners and MRIs.

Meta announced on October 28th research partnerships with five US universities, providing access to its models, direct collaboration with its researchers and, for some projects, funding. Models can be deployed on site to ensure that institutions retain control of their data.

Very concrete projects

In Ohio State, teams at the Faculty of Medicine will work on the detection of the risk of heart failure from abdominal scanners, the writing of chest X-ray reports, and help with Alzheimer's diagnosis. LSU is interested in monitoring neurosurgery results, monitoring tracheotomized infants and predicting head and neck cancers. Indiana University develops multilingual counselling for mother and newborn care and a conversational AI for people with dementia. UTHEalth Houston integrates patient records with glioblastoma and automates clinical documentation, including with Meta's goggles at the patient's bedside.

Caltech, finally, focuses on scientific discovery in the broad sense: research-level mathematics, physical modelling, prediction of chemical reactions and formally verifiable code.
