The new 24 inch iMac embarks the M6 chip with neuronal accelerators in each graphic core and a dual Neural Engine. Pre-orders starting October 28, starting at $1,499.
On October 27, Apple introduced a new generation of iMacs powered by the M6 chip. The machine uses the 24-inch 4.5K Retina display and comes in seven colors, but most of the new features concern the AI run directly on the device.
A chip tailored for local models
The M6 has up to 12 CPU cores and 12 GPU cores, each of which integrates a neural accelerator. It also relies on a dual 16-core Neural Engine and a memory bandwidth of up to 170 GB/s. Apple announces local AI processing up to five times faster than with the M4, and prompt processing up to twelve times faster than with the M1 in LM Studio, the tool for running language models offline.
On the software side, the iMac benefits from macOS 27 and the new, more conversational version of Siri, as well as Visual Intelligence and assisted photo editing features. In the United States, prices start at $1,499 (10-core version) and $1,699 (12-core version). Orders open on October 28, for availability on November 6.
