Independent Pelletists: Bedrock Robotics raises $600 million and is now worth $4.1 billion

Boris Sofman's start-up, which transforms existing construction machinery into autonomous machines, more than doubled its valuation in eight months and signs eight new entrepreneurs.

Bedrock Robotics, a San Francisco-based company that designs autonomous driving software for earthmoving machinery, has closed a $600 million Series C round at a valuation of $4.1 billion. The round is being led jointly by CapitalG and Emergence Capital, with the arrival of the US Innovative Technology Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners and Temasek, alongside historical investors including 8VC, Eclipse and Nvidia. The company is thus approaching the billion dollars raised in total, after a Series B of 270 million at 1.75 billion in valuation in February.

Paying projects since August

Its principle: equipping excavators already in service rather than selling new machines. Since August, its fully autonomous machines have been carrying out invoiced work on real commercial sites, and the number of customers has more than doubled since 2025. Eight new deployment partners have been announced, including Haydon in Arizona, Wagner Construction in Minnesota, C.W. Matthews in Georgia and Clarkson Construction in Missouri.

The company, led by its co-founder Boris Sofman, justifies its bet by the labor shortage: the American construction industry would need about 1.7 million skilled workers per year by 2035, and 87% of companies in the sector report unfilled manual positions. The funds will be used to expand deployments and build the field infrastructure necessary to make autonomy more reliable on a daily basis.
