Elon Musk has described Grok 4.5 as a model that is just as powerful as Opus, but faster and cheaper, on the eve of OpenAI’s launch of GPT-5.6.
xAI has launched Grok 4.5, described by Elon Musk as an "Opus" level model, trained on several tens of thousands of Nvidia GB300 GPUs from heavily filtered and deduplicated datasets. The model primarily targets coding and autonomous agent uses.
Priced at $2 per million tokens for input and $6 for output, Grok 4.5 is immediately available to developers. Its launch, the day before the public release of GPT-5.6 at OpenAI, illustrates the intensity of competition between labs in the first half of 2026.
