OpenAI buys Orchestra Bio and integrates its steering officers with drug programs in Rosalind

Undisclosed amount: the start-up team, which entrusts IA agents with monitoring studies and pharmaceutical development schedules, joins OpenAI's Rosalind range.

OpenAI announced on October 20 the acquisition of Orchestra Bio, a young software company for biotech founded about four years ago. Its platform serves as an "agentic" coordination layer between the teams of a drug program: AI agents take charge of monitoring studies and campaigns, monitoring deadlines from discovery to clinical trials, including preclinical and manufacturing, as well as identifying delays, to leave important decisions to scientists. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The team and the technology join Rosalind, OpenAI's life sciences brand, which brings together the GPT-Rosalind reasoning model for biology and chemistry and the Rosalind Workbench research environment, already used by Moderna and Novo Nordisk. OpenAI justifies the operation by the duration of the development of a treatment, from 10 to 15 years on average between the identification of a target and the authorization: the stated objective is to help researchers not only discover, but also manage the work that turns a discovery into a drug.
