The Swiss start-up, founded by an ex-Physical Intelligence, focuses on tactile perception via actuators rather than on vision alone to make manipulating objects reliable.
Enact Intelligence, based in Switzerland, announces a pre-start round of $30 million, an unusual amount at this stage. Redalpine, Notion Capital and Firstminute Capital participate, as well as several leading individual investors: Arthur Mensch, boss of Mistral AI, Yann LeCun, former Scientific Director of AI at Meta, and Thomas Wolf, co-founder of Hugging Face.
Touch rather than camera
The company develops a complete technological battery for multipurpose robots, focused on precise handling. Unlike approaches that rely mainly on cameras, robots perceive forces and contacts directly through their actuators, in real time, which should allow them to learn with less data while gaining reliability. Its CEO and co-founder, Manuel Yves Galliker, passed by the American Physical Intelligence, claims technology applicable to all types of robots and thought for industrial deployment.
The funds will be used to strengthen the team and accelerate the physical development and R&D, from model architecture (capable of reasoning at multiple frequencies and scales) to the sensors and actuators that feed them.
