Mach9 raises $34 million for its AI-powered CAD that transforms laser surveys and images into infrastructure plans

A former manufacturer of inspection equipment, Mach9 promises to produce the centimetre-level readings needed by civil engineering design offices ten times faster.

Founded in 2021 under the name of Mach9 Robotics to build inspection equipment for civil engineering, the start-up found that the real bottleneck was not the capture of data but their exploitation: turning laser point clouds and images into a survey usable for design took months, about a week per mile in conventional software. It has therefore abandoned the hardware to develop computer-assisted design software based on its own AI models.

These models, trained on multimodal image and laser data, trace borders, markings and pavements with the centimetric accuracy required by the sector, and then deliver a first version of the plan that engineers correct and validate, as they bear the professional responsibility. Mach9 claims a speed gain of a factor ten, close to 100 customers in private beta and over 2,500 processed projects. Its $34 million A series is co-led by First Round Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners, with Prudence and Quiet Capital.
