Notion is revamping its agents: tasks lasting more than 24 hours and an ‘Auto’ router that selects the cheapest model

Notion’s sixth-generation agent infrastructure: task completion times have increased from 5 minutes to over 24 hours, and a router promises results on a par with the best models at 90 per cent less cost.

Notion unveiled on October 19 a complete overhaul of Notion Agent and its Custom Agents, built on what the publisher presents as the sixth generation of its "harness" of agents. Each session now runs on a dedicated service, powered by a queue that survives the restarts: the same task can continue for more than 24 hours, compared to five minutes so far, with an announced availability of more than 99.9%.

A router to save credit

The most visible novelty is called Auto: a router that entrusts each task to the model offering the best compromise between quality, speed and price. According to Notion, it achieves results comparable to advanced models at an average lower cost of about 90%, which makes the credits last about ten times longer. During tests, Custom Agents' execution cost about 30% less and web and mobile agents are 50% faster.

Billing changes from November 2nd for existing customers: each Business or Enterprise headquarters will receive 1,500 "Standard" credits each month, where Notion chooses the model, and 500 "Select" credits, where the user chooses it himself. The publisher also adds the use of a ChatGPT subscription, the provision of its own alpha API keys for large accounts and an administration console to track expenses.
