The Canadian start-up has secured its first major US property developer: D.R. Horton will have more than 1,250 homes built via its ‘factory-to-home’ scheme, where AI translates plans into instructions for robots.
Calgary-based startup Promise Robotics has entered into a multi-year agreement with D.R. Horton, one of the largest home builders in the United States. The contract covers the manufacture of components for more than 1,250 homes; neither the amount, the sites involved, nor the timeline have been disclosed. D.R. Horton becomes the first major U.S. developer to adopt the company's platform.
A factory without owning one
The proposed model, referred to as "Factory-as-a-Service," allows builders to take advantage of automated production without operating their own factory. The AI reads existing home plans, derives a production plan, coordinates the robotic manufacturing of the elements and then links this work in the factory to the installation on site. Managing Director Ramtin Attar presents this "physical AI" as a way to increase construction capacity from one market to another; D.R. Horton points to shorter construction times and more predictable volumes.
The company is building on a first partnership established in 2025 with Mattamy Homes in Alberta, around two planned neighbourhoods produced from its Calgary site. Its arrival in the United States is a response to a labour shortage and rising construction costs.
