Surface Laptop Ultra: Satya Nadella promises a version of Windows that isolates AI agents and ‘last year’s state-of-the-art’ models locally

In an interview with Joanna Stern, the Microsoft boss outlined a version of Windows in which each agent has its own identity, monitored by Defender, and a $2,600 RTX Spark laptop capable of running large models without relying on the cloud.

In an interview with journalist Joanna Stern published on October 15, Satya Nadella returns to Surface Laptop Ultra. Sold from 2,600 dollars, this laptop carries the RTX Spark chip from Nvidia and up to 128 GB of memory, of which to execute locally, according to him, models that were at the border of the state of art a year ago, without depending on a data center.

Agents treated as an internal risk

The manager explained that Microsoft is re-founding Windows so that IA agents have separate identities from users, with limited permissions and monitoring of their behavior. Windows Defender must identify unauthorized actions of an agent and be able to stop it. Nadella says she sees any agent as a potential internal threat and argues for a measured deployment rather than a volume race.

Asked about Copilot's omnipresence, which reminds some of Clippy's times, he assures that Microsoft has reduced unnecessary access points to the assistant in the system.
