According to Handelsblatt, the Merz government is set to announce, alongside Jensen Huang on 19 October, a programme worth several hundred million euros for physical AI and industrial models.
Germany is preparing to formalise a partnership with Nvidia at the "Invest in Germany" summit on 19 October, in the presence of Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Jensen Huang, according to information from Handelsblatt. The federal contribution would amount to hundreds of millions of euros and could be used in particular to rent computing power. A dozen German companies would be associated, including Siemens, Audi and Black Forest Labs.
Extend SOOFI
The project builds on SOOFI (Sovereign Open Source Foundation Models), launched in September 2025 with €20 million from the Ministry of Economy to develop large open models with universities, research institutes and companies, on Deutsche Telekom's Industrial AI Cloud. Two axes are targeted: physical AI for robots and autonomous vehicles, and industrial models capable of competing internationally. Nvidia would bring engineers and his families of Nemotron and Cosmos models. Berlin is seeking to reduce its delay in computing and skills vis-à-vis the United States and China.
