Sundar Pichai announces that Gemini has become Google's fastest-growing product, trailing ChatGPT in the number of active users.
Google announced on August 11 that the Gemini app now surpasses one billion monthly active users, making it the group's 14th service to reach this milestone — and its fastest product to do so. The app had about 400 million users in May 2025 before jumping to nearly a billion in just over a year.
According to Google, 63% of interactions are now voice-based, and the tool generates more than 150 million images per day. On iOS, Gemini also exceeds 100 million monthly users, a sign that the Apple ecosystem is no longer holding back its adoption compared to ChatGPT.
