Replit claims it is no longer working with Anthropic; Anthropic denies the split

Speaking on stage at TechCrunch Disrupt, Amjad Masad explained that Replit had switched to OpenAI for reasons of cost and performance. Sources close to the matter confirm that the partnership is still in place.

Replit's CEO and co-founder, Amjad Masad, said this week at TechCrunch Disrupt that its in-browser development platform no longer collaborates with Anthropic. He cites a range of reasons: cost, quality of the partnership, and performance, measured on an internal benchmark and a public benchmark where, according to him, OpenAI's models are doing better to build complete applications from scratch. Replit had formalized an alliance with OpenAI in August, without ever announcing a departure from Anthropic.

A disputed version

Several elements muddy the message. A source close to the two companies told TechCrunch that the agreement with Anthropic is still in effect, and a Replit blog post published at the end of September still cited Claude Fable 5 and 5.1 among the models that run Replit Agent in production. An employee of the company also praised Opus 5.5 on X a few weeks earlier.

Amjad Masad also gave an overview of the composition of the turnover, without revealing the ARR: business contracts, which accounted for about 2% of revenues last year, now account for nearly 15%, and more than half of the revenues come from B2B.
