How generative AI is reshaping the practice of architecture in 2026

Rapid iteration of concepts, optimization of plans, acceleration of construction documents: AI image generation has gone from a gadget to an everyday tool in the agency.

Generative AI tools have become common tools in architectural agencies, used to quickly iterate on concepts, optimize plans or accelerate the production of construction documents. A recent survey of more than 1200 professionals in the sector indicates that nearly half of them are already using AI in their projects, and an additional quarter are planning to do so soon.

The global market for generic AI applied to architecture is expected to grow by about 41% between 2025 and 2026, driven by design automation and the development of online collaboration. Some agencies report significant gains in project delivery times and a significant reduction in the number of revisions required through these generic design tools.
