What 750 business leaders are saying about the true effects of AI on productivity

A study by the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta shows productivity gains concentrated in skilled services and finance, with a limited impact on employment in the short term.

A discussion paper published by the Atlanta Federal Reserve, based on a survey of nearly 750 U.S. business leaders, provides a nuanced picture of the impact of artificial intelligence on productivity. The gains observed are positive but very heterogeneous across sectors, with a marked concentration in high-skilled services and finance.

According to the study, these gains would come more from innovation and demand stimulation than from a mere capital investment effect. In terms of employment, the impact would at present be limited in the short term, resulting in a recomposition of existing posts rather than massive abolitions.
