Xianyin Future, a Tsinghua spin-off, raises several hundred million yuan for its cable-driven robotic space arms

Alibaba is leading the Series A funding round for this start-up, which aims to refuel, inspect and deorbit satellites using flexible arms, and is targeting a docking demonstration in 2027.

Founded in September 2025 by Professor Liang Bin's team at Tsinghua University, with the Jianghuai Innovation Center, Xianyin Future has gone through three rounds of funding between May and October 2026, for a total of several hundred million yuan. Lanchi Ventures and High-Ridge Capital led the seed round, Huaying Capital the pre-A, and Alibaba, associated with China Mobile's fund, Series A.

Flexible arms for orbit

The company is developing flexible cable-operated space robots, a redundant arm architecture that the team has been working on for more than twenty years and that it has already tested in several national in-orbit verification programs. Three services are targeted: refueling of satellites running out of fuel, assistance in the deorbiting of end-of-life spacecraft and in-orbit inspection or maintenance.

Xianyin Future plans to test its rendezvous and docking technologies in space in 2027. It joins a booming orbital servitude sector, driven by the growing congestion of low orbits.
