NTT Data is set to build Anthropic’s first data centre in Japan, in Osaka, with a capacity of up to 500 MW

According to Nikkei, the project could cost $6.3 billion and open partially in 2028, making it one of the country’s largest data centres.

NTT Data Group is in the final stages of negotiations to build a data center dedicated to Anthropic in western Japan, in Osaka, reports Nikkei, based on several sources. This would be the first facility dedicated to the American company in the archipelago.

The planned capacity would reach up to 500 megawatts, which would place the site among the largest in Japan in terms of computing power. The construction cost is estimated at some $6.3 billion, with partial commissioning targeted for 2028. Neither NTT Data nor Anthropic had publicly confirmed the agreement at the time of publication.
